A hidden gem

After discovering that Olympus had secreted a rather good grainy film effect (simulation?) in my EPL-3 and subsequent models, I thought I would check out my Lumix compact cameras to see if there was something similar I could experiment with.

My LX5 and LX7 have a good monochrome setting in their picture profile menu and a dynamic black and white setting in the 'art' mode but there is little manual control with these cameras, so I tend to just use the monochrome.

After checking my LX100, this same mode is available, again only shooting Jpeg but better exposure compensation via the dedicated exposure dial on the camera.
I fired a few test shots in my home, and looked to see what this camera would produce.

I knew then, that Sunday's photo walk would involve experimenting with what I consider a hidden gem.

Having set the camera to shoot just Jpeg and dialling in the setting, I saved it as a custom profile for easy access, just one of the reasons I like Lumix cameras.

As has become the norm, my Sunday photo walk would be a couple of hours around Exeter city centre, where I hoped to capture the shadows and light on some of the taller buildings around the city.

My intention was to get as much right in camera as I could, any edits I would hope to keep to a minimum, perhaps slight exposure, and shadow tweaks and the white border I have come to use on a regular basis.

Most of my shots were composed in square format, just another habit that has made its way into my photographic arsenal over the last few months.

There is no doubt that I will shoot with this setting again, it made today's walk well worth the outing.
