New gear? - No thanks

Today has seen the launch of the newest Fuji X100 series camera, the X100VI, a camera that without doubt will sell as well as its predecessor.

With an upgrade to a 40 megapixel sensor from the V's 26 megapixel and six axis image stabilization, it promises to be a superb camera but I no longer feel the urge to part with the best part of £1600 to own the new kid on the block.

I have owned, loved and sold a good few Fujifilm cameras, including the 'V', fujifilm cameras have become a favourite among the TikTok generation inflating the prices of even the oldest models to silly money.

My refusal to follow the trend has taken me down other avenues that have been both pleasurable and rewarding, my current collection of vintage digicams and early mirrorless cameras total less than a third of the cost of the latest offering from Fujifilm.

It is not all about the cost, for my usage, 40mp is just overkill and to be honest, image stabilization, as good as it may be, is just another nail in the coffin for the discipline of photography, in much the same way that satnav is allowing us slowly to lose the joy of map reading from an atlas or road map.

I may sound akin to the film 'purist', lamenting the digital camera age but I am more than happy to continue exploring the older gear that I shunned in the past because I thought I 'needed' the latest and best.

With my semi rant over, I would like to share a few images from my weekend away, where my cameras of choice were my Lumix GX8 coupled with the Olympus 12-40 lens and my under used Lumix LX100.
