Going home
With the summer holidays already just a faded memory, the frenetic nature of August is replaced with September's more serene pace, even the sun waits a little longer before parading its vibrant colours in the morning sky.
My monthly family visit to my home town of Salcombe coincided with a favourable warm weather front, so I was keen to take advantage of this from a favourite view point, a forty minute walk from my dads house.
Sunrise was due to be just before 7am, so I leave just after 5:30 am and wander into what seemed like the midnight hour.
At the half way point, the sky starts to show signs light, subtle hues of orange and blue replacing the darkness.
The image above is taken just fifteen minutes from my destination.
Exposing for the sky was always going to compromise the foreground but I do like the way it silhouetted the tree line, and gave just a hint of the low mist in the mid ground.
My route here is along country lanes, the only sounds I here are the beginnings of the morning bird chorus with the odd interruption of lambs bleating in the surrounding farm land.
Arriving at my chosen spot, it is the top of a steep field that overlooks Salcombe and Kingsbridge estuary, it is a waiting game but I have time to set up and have a welcome sip or two of tea before the light show begins.
